A grid background gives a design structure without competing with the content on top of it. Thin lines make a hero section look technical and precise, dots give a slide a clean notebook feel, and a perspective grid adds depth to a video title screen.
This collection has 10 free black grid backgrounds in SVG format. Every file is 1920×1080 px, scales to any size without losing sharpness, and can be recolored in any vector editor. All of them are free for personal and commercial use, and no attribution is required.
Line and cell grids
Classic grids made of evenly spaced lines. They suit SaaS landing pages, dashboards, and any design with a technical or minimal look.
Black Lined Grid

Evenly spaced lines on a black background. The most universal option in the set and a safe default behind headings and buttons. SVG, 189 KB.
Black Lined Grid With Dots

The same line grid with dots added, which gives a richer, more detailed texture. Good for hero sections and covers. SVG, 657 KB.
Black Grid Small Cells

A fine grid of small cells. The dense pattern works well for presentations and technical visuals. SVG, 10 KB.
Dot grids
Lighter than line grids, so text stays readable on top of them. They are a good choice for slides, posters, and portfolio sites.
Black Dots Grid

Evenly spaced dots in a repeating pattern, the classic dotted backdrop. SVG, 317 KB.
Black Square Dots Grid

A dot grid made of square dots, with a sharper and more geometric character than round dots. SVG, 42 KB.
Column grids
Backgrounds that visualize a layout grid. They are useful for UI mockups, wireframes, and designs that show how content is structured.
Black 6 Column Grid Outline

A six-column grid drawn with outlines. A very light file, and a convenient backdrop for layout presentations. SVG, 1 KB.
Black Long Column Grid 7 x 8

Tall vertical columns in a 7 x 8 arrangement. A bold, architectural look for hero sections and covers. SVG, 2 KB.
Perspective grids
Angled lines create a sense of depth, so the surface appears to recede into space. They work well for intros, title screens, and futuristic designs.
Black Small Perspective Grid

Fine lines in perspective, a subtle and detailed depth effect. SVG, 39 KB.
Black Big Perspective Grid

Large angled lines that make the depth more dramatic. Works best behind large headlines. SVG, 5 KB.
Pixel grid
Black Pixel Grid Big

Large square elements arranged in a structured pattern. Fits retro, gaming, and digital-themed projects. SVG, 3 KB.
How to use a grid background on a website
Download the SVG, add it to the project, and set it as a CSS background:

Place the heading and button on top, and keep the text color high-contrast so the lines do not hurt readability.
How to change the colors in Figma
- Drag the SVG file onto the Figma canvas.
- Select the grid layer or the group of lines.
- In the right panel, change Fill (for dots and blocks) or Stroke (for lines).
- Lower the opacity if the grid should be subtler.
- Add text, icons, or images on top, then export as SVG or PNG.
The same steps work in Affinity Designer and other vector editors.
How to use grid backgrounds in presentations and video
In PowerPoint, insert the SVG as a picture, stretch it to the full slide, and send it to the back. If a program does not accept SVG, open the file in Figma and export it as a PNG at 1920×1080, then use it as a regular image. This is often needed for Google Slides and CapCut.
For video, a grid works as a background for intros, title screens, YouTube Shorts, and lower-thirds. Place large text over it and keep the grid low-contrast so it does not compete with motion.
SVG or PNG?
- SVG for websites, UI design, and anything that needs resizing or recoloring.
- PNG for video editors and apps that do not support SVG.
